Im Sahel regieren zunehmend autoritäre Militärregime, mit denen Zusammenarbeit zu Zielen wie Stabilität und Frieden für Deutschland immer schwieriger wird. Nun stellt sich nach den jüngsten Putschen insbesondere in Mali und Niger die Frage, ob und wie die bisherigen Stabilisierungspolitiken fortgeführt werden können. Seit etwa zehn Jahren verfolgt Deutschland gemeinsam mit den Niederlanden, Großbritannien und den USA eine Stabilisierungspolitik, bei der die Stärkung einer fragilen Regierung im Mittelpunkt steht. Künftig muss Deutschland klarer definieren, welche Partner als legitim betrachtet werden und welche grundlegenden Prinzipien trotz hoher Kontextspezifität maßgeblich sein sollten.
