Mikuláš Dzurinda

With only weeks to go before the upcoming European Parliament election, we discuss the issues that the European Union will have to grapple with after the polls: Pisions between member states, polarization within na-tional societies and the fragmentation of political party systems in many countries. Mikuláš Dzurinda, head of the official think tank of the Europe-an People’s party (EPP), will share his views on recent shifts in Europe’s political landscape and current dynamics in the EU’s centre-right camp. He will also discuss the perception and reality of Europe‘s East-West pide, perging German and French approaches to partners in Central and East-ern Europe, and how to deal with post-election Ukraine.
Mikuláš Dzurinda has been president of the WMCES since 2013. He was prime minister of Slovakia from 1998 to 2006, and introduced far-reaching reforms which enabled his country to join the EU and NATO. He was long-time chairman of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) and a member of the Slovak Parliament until 2016.
