Technology & Global Affairs Program

This program offers research and consulting that focuses on the interrelationship between technology and global affairs. It addresses political decision-makers, and stake-holders from the private sector and civil society. Technological innovation, diffusion, and impact are always influenced by the social, economic, and (security) policy contexts in which they occur. Indeed, technologies can change the areas of influence, options for action, and goals of international actors. Beyond the role that technology continues to play in determining foreign and security policy in the classical sense, almost all policies in which technology plays a role now also have an international dimension.

Key topics:

  • Technologies related to security and defense
  • So-called “emerging technologies” and converging technological developments
  • The interrelationship between geopolitics and technology
  • Policy related to technology and innovation, as well as Germany and the EU’s capacity to act on issues related to technology
