Visual of the Conference on the Future of the Eastern Partnership

On the occasion of the Eastern Partnership Leaders’ Video Teleconference, the European Commission DG NEAR and the German Council on Foreign Relations are organising a high-level think tank event to discuss the future of the Eastern Partnership. The event will reflect on the post-2020 Eastern Partnership policy framework with its overarching focus on resilience and its five policy objectives (economy and connectivity; rule of law and security; inclusive societies and both the green and digital transformations). It will also assess the EU response to the COVID-19 pandemic and reflect on the impact of the challenges it poses in the short and medium term.

The high-level think tank event will be opened by European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi and it brings together high-level panellists that cover the Eastern Partnership from both EU Member States and Eastern Partnership countries. Panellists include:

  • Minister Linas Linkevičius,
    Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, and member of the European Council on Foreign Relations
  • Emine Dzhaparova,
    First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine 
  • Ambassador Mykola Tochytskyi,
    Head of Ukraine’s Mission to the EU 
  • Andrius Kubilius,
    Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, Former Prime Minister of Lithuania
  • Angelina Eichhorst,
    Managing Director Europe and Central Asia, at the European External Action Service
  • Katariná Mathernová,
    Deputy Director General at DG NEAR, European Commission
  • Nicu Popescu,
    Director of the Wider Europe Programme of the European Council on Foreign Relations, and former Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Richard Giragosian, 
    Founding Director of the Regional Studies Center, in Armenia

The event will be moderated by Cristina Gherasimov, Research Fellow at the Robert Bosch Center for Central Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia at DGAP. It will bring together imminent think tanks from both the six Eastern Partnership countries and EU Member States.
