Tyson Barker Joins DGAP as Head of its New Technology & Global Affairs Program
As of October 5, 2020, Tyson Barker will lead DGAP’s new Technology & Global Affairs Program. Barker and his team will focus on providing insight into the geopolitical role of technology, exploring issues that include European and transatlantic data policy, internet governance, digital democracy and disinformation, and international cybersecurity.
DGAP Director Dr. Daniela Schwarzer states: “The advancement of technology is a factor that will largely determine the course of international developments. Our newly launched Technology & Global Affairs Program will provide research-based policy advice on such key issues as the geopolitical dimensions of the tech race, internet governance, cybersecurity, and digital democracy. Tyson Barker’s proven expertise in both technology and geopolitics will allow us to expand our research and consulting activities in an area that is of growing importance to German and European policymakers.”
Prior to joining DGAP, Barker worked at Aspen Germany where, as deputy executive director and fellow, he was responsible for the institute’s digital and transatlantic programs. Previously, he served in numerous positions including as senior advisor in the Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US State Department and director for transatlantic relations at the Bertelsmann Foundation.
