France/Franco-German Relations

Unter dem Eindruck der Atomkatastrophe von Fukushima beschreiten Frankreich und Deutschland energiepolitisch zwei völlig unterschiedliche Wege. Wie lassen sich diese unterschiedlichen Ansätze erklären? Was bedeuten sie für Unternehmen in beiden Ländern? Wie sieht die Zukunft der europäischen Energiepolitik aus? Der Atomausstieg Deutschlands und seine Auswirkungen auf die deutsche und französische Wirtschaft waren Thema einer Sitzung des Gesprächskreises Frankreich.

How will cooperation between Germany and France look under the French G20 presidency? How will the strategic culture of both countries evolve in the face of emerging geopolitical challenges? How will France and Germany coordinate with each other during negotiations on the new EU financial framework? And how will Germany and France position themselves in relation to the “new Turkey” and the emerging world power India? These questions were discussed by the participants in the third seminar of the Franco-German Future Dialogue held in Paris.

Lässt sich das französische Parteiensystem ein Jahr vor der Präsidentschaftswahl mit der deutschen Parteienlandschaft vergleichen? Welche Debatten führen Deutschland und Frankreich im Vorfeld der anstehenden EU-Agrarreform und angesichts der Krise der europäischen Gemeinschaftswährung? Und ist in beiden Ländern gleichermaßen das Phänomen einer schwindenden Mittelschicht zu beobachten?

What positions have Germany and France adopted in the light of mass demonstrations and regime change in Tunisia? What is expectated of Germany, France, and the EU by Tunisia and other Arab states during the process of transformation? These questions were discussed at the “German-French Future Dialogue” by Sami Ben Sassi, Internet activist from Tunis, Béligh Nabli, director of research at the French Council on Foreign Relations and Strategy (IRIS) in Paris, and Klemens Semtner, head of the task force on transformation partnership with Tunisia in the German Foreign Office.
