Rückkehr-Debatte nach Syrien: Weniger Charter, mehr Chancen

Die Rückkehr-Debatte zu Syrien zeigt drei Arten von Forderungen: die nötigen, die unnötigen und die fehlenden. Nötig ist eine Pause neuer Asylentscheidungen und die Prüfung freiwilliger Rückkehrförderung. Unnötig sind Charterflüge und Diskussionen zum Widerruf von Schutz, da diese verfrüht sind und falsche Erwartungen wecken. Stattdessen braucht es erstens die Einbindung syrischer Diasporaorganisationen in eine Wiederaufbau-Konferenz und zweitens Migrationsdiplomatie mit der Türkei. Unrealistische Schnellschüsse schaden der Debatte und dem Wiederaufbau.

Changing Environments: Pakistan’s Perspective

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, stresses importance of peaceful and stable Afghanistan in speech at DGAP

A meeting with Foreign Minister Westerwelle and the agreement for a “strategic dialogue” between Germany and Pakistan was the occasion of Pakistani Foreign Minister, H.E. Hina Rabbani Khar’s visit to Berlin. Khar highlighted the excellent bilateral ties between Germany and Pakistan and thanked Germany for its extraordinary support and understanding.

At EUMEF's 16th Summer School, young scholars and renowned experts developed proposals for the transformation process

Abandoning Western prejudices must be a part of this. Contrary to common perceptions, democracy and Islam suit each other well – this was the conclusion of an event with Tariq Ramadan, Professor for Islamic Studies at Oxford. Egyptian Political scientist Mustafa Kamal Al-Sayyid showed how civil society can be strengthened as source of political inspiration. Around 50 participants and speakers from over ten countries convened at the DGAP EU-Middle East Forum for two weeks in Berlin.
