EU member states continue to debate the controversial plan to extend the Nord Stream project in the Baltic Sea with two new pipelines. While one side argues that it would undermine European energy security and call the EU’s Energy Union into question, others consider it a business project that could potentially improve relations with Russian leadership. Ilya Zaslavskiy will present his new policy paper, the “Kremlin’s Gas Games in Europe”, which examines Gazprom’s latest pipeline project alongside its previous pipeline projects. Zaslavskiy argues that Gazprom’s track record of acting as an arm of the Kremlin’s foreign and economic policy contradicts the image it projects as an independent, competitive firm. A panel of experts will discuss his thesis.
