The course of the war in Ukraine poses serious risks for German and European security that are not being adequately recognized or responded to. The worst outcome of the war this year is no longer stalemate or forced negotiations on bad terms, but defeat. Any of these outcomes would impose massive costs on Ukraine but would also raises the threat level across Europe. It is essential, therefore, that Germany and its allies rise to the twin challenge of supporting Ukraine sufficiently to win and of ensuring our own security. Building capabilities and defence industrial capacity is essential for both aims and, along with other measures, will help demonstrate the necessary resolve, to defeat and deter Russia. Taking these actions requires honest communication with our publics about the state of the threat and what we need to do to address it.
By bringing together Baltic, German, and European parliamentary leaders with journalists from domestic and international media, this event shall help communicate this to the German and European public.
