Strengthening Climate Foreign Policy at the European Level

While the EU is a leader on global climate action, it regularly proves to lack the strategic cohesion needed to quickly meet emerging geopolitical challenges. Taking steps to formalize a European climate foreign policy and improve coordination among the European External Action Service (EEAS), Commission, and member states could help address this deficit and allow the EU to advance ambitious climate standards globally while preserving its strategic interests.

Future Scenarios for the Western Balkans

TRAIN 2018 researchers gather in Belgrade for their midterm seminar

From the 24th to the 28th of June, the second seminar in this year’s TRAIN Programme cycle took place in Belgrade, once again bringing together think tank experts from the Western Balkans and across the EU to discuss prospects for the future of regional cooperation and European integration. Following their kick-off seminar in April in Berlin, the researchers moved on in their recent meeting to the process of developing concrete scenarios and detailed outlooks for 2025.

Der Generaldirektor für Nachbarschaftspolitik und Erweiterungsverhandlungen bei der Europäischen Kommission hat in der DGAP die neue EU-Strategie für den Westbalkan vorgestellt. Er betonte sowohl gemeinsame Interessen als auch individuelle Herausforderungen im Beitrittsprozess zwischen der EU und den sechs Ländern des Westbalkans.

At Tuesday at the DGAP, Christian Danielsson, Director General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, gave a keynote speech about the new EU strategy for the Western Balkans. He underlined mutual interests as well as individual challenges in the accession process between the EU and the six countries of the Western Balkans.
