They seem to be better prepared for the consequences of the US presidential election than many EU member states. Yet, regardless of who wins, the role of the United States in the Western Balkans is going to decrease. Thus, the region – with its unresolved conflicts and stalled integration – will need more serious strategic engagement from the EU and Germany no matter who the new US president is.
