Ein Gespenst geht um in der NATO: Die Zukunft von US-Sicherheitsgarantien für Europa

Deutschland und Europa sind für ihre Verteidigung auf die NATO angewiesen. Welcher Präsident ab 2025 die NATO-Führungsmacht USA regiert, ist aus deutscher Sicht daher von besonderer Relevanz. Ob Biden, der sich stets zum Bündnis bekannt hat, oder Trump, der erklärt hat, säumige Zahler den Russen überlassen zu wollen: So oder so müssen Deutschland und Europa mehr in ihre eigene Sicher-heit investieren. Sollte Trump gewinnen, wird es noch wichtiger, innereuropäische Geschlossenheit gegenüber Russland zu demonstrieren.

US Ambassador to Germany John B. Emerson and German Minister of Agriculture Christian Schmidt came to the DGAP the morning after the US elections to give their first impressions of the outcome.
