Joint event by the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in cooperation with the British Embassy.

A keynote address by

Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP
UK Secretary of State for Defence

In a volatile global security environment, and with the United States increasingly turning its focus to Asia, European Nations need to be ready to protect their shared values and project force to do so. This means intervening beyond the borders of Europe when necessary. The UK and its close partners, including Germany, are called on to generate both the military capability and political will to deploy military resources more widely in future in support of NATO, EU and coalition operations. The transformation of national forces currently being undertaken in the UK and Germany, and the adaptation of the security organizations should be focused on creating deployable capability.
