Dr. Sinem Adar is the Head of the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Brown University and an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. Dr. Adar's work focuses on Turkish domestic policy as well as foreign and security policy. Since 2024, she has been co-leading (with Dr. Muriel Asseburg) the SWP's thematic working group entitled "Autocratization and Its Challenges for German and European Foreign Policy".
