Policy project: Reconciling the German economic model with security concerns

The Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine have put the German economic model under additional stress. Until the beginning of 2020 issues like Brexit, digitalization, climate change, tech giants and the emergence of China as a global economic power have been at the core of the discussions on necessary adaptations of this model.  Now, demands for its transformation seem to go beyond mere adaptation concerns.

Ana Helena Palermo Kuss studied economics (M.Sc.) at the University of Freiburg and international relations (B.A.) at the Universidade Federal Fluminense in Niterói, Brazil. She completed her doctorate with a thesis on “Economic effects of basic income and formation of redistribution preferences: A theoretical and experimental investigation” at the Chair of Economic Policy and Constitutional Economic Theory at the University of Freiburg. Since February 2020 she has been the Advisor to ZEW’s – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research President, Professor Achim Wambach.  In her current role she works on the strategic guidance of the institute and also on the formulation of analyses on different economic topics based on their scientific expertise.
