Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the security landscape in the Baltic Sea region has undergone a profound shift. New threats compound conventional ones, and all Nordic-Baltic countries are now NATO Allies. This situation demands – and provides an opportunity for – a deepened regional cooperation on security policy issues.
In 2024, Sweden is chairing the informal foreign and security cooperation formats between the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8). The main priorities of this role are to strengthen foreign and security policy cooperation in the region, maintain unwavering regional support for Ukraine, and ensure continued global support for Ukraine.
