Foresight and scenario planning are just two methods that think tanks use to engage with political futures. But futures thinking also lies at the heart of think tank work in many other, more subtle ways – for instance, each time we formulate policy recommendations to prevent or bring about a certain political outcome.

How can we analyze, communicate, and shape (political) futures? Which assumptions and expectations influence our thinking? Which methods can help us understand and visualize something that is, by definition, not yet there? And how can we engage others in discussing and even prototyping desirable futures?

For the first Think Tank Lab event of 2023, we invite you to explore futures thinking through a new lens in collaboration with Futurium. After a guided tour through the exhibition and Futurium Lab, we will explore what we can learn from a museum of the future in conversation with Futurium’s team of curators and researchers.

Speakers:
Rosalina Babourkova Research Associate Exhibitions, Futurium
Raphaela Hobbach Research Associate Strategy and Content, Futurium
Henning Humml Consultant Futurium Lab, Futurium

Moderator: Weronika Perlinski Acting Head, Think Tank Lab, German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP)

For any questions, please contact the Think Tank Lab team (thinktanklab@dgap.org).
