The parliamentary elections in Georgia on October 26 are crucial for the country’s European future and its role in the Caucasus. The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party has undermined Georgia’s path to the EU and moved it toward authoritarianism. Through measures including a Foreign Agent law and anti-LGBTQI legislation, GD is attempting to transform Georgia into an illiberal country. Despite huge protests by civil society, the ruling party is using all instruments to stay in power and undermine political alternatives. Russia has not only been a key topic in these elections but has also sought to impact their outcome. Against this background, a panel of experts discuss the results of these pivotal elections and their implications for Georgia’s future and for the region.
