Short Bio

Max Becker has been a policy fellow in DGAP’s Center for Security and Defense since December 2025. He focuses on German and European security and defense policy as well as questions of defense cooperation. He also works on the role of new technologies in defense policy and their implications for the strategic capabilities of Germany and Europe.

Previously, Becker spent two years as a research assistant in the EU/Europe Research Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). During this time, he published on the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy, European defense cooperation, and the international politics of European far-right parties.

Becker studied international relations and political science in Erfurt and Tallinn. He then completed a dual-degree master’s program in governance and public policy as well as international relations in Passau and Budapest. His master’s thesis focused on the European Union’s defense industrial policy.
