Für einen europäischen Plan B bleibt die deutsch-französische Kooperation alternativlos

Das deutsch-französische Verhältnis ist seit dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs immer von einer Drittvariable abhängig gewesen: der US-Regierung. Dass in der Verteidigungspolitik seit 2017 bilaterale Fortschritte gelangen, hing mit der ersten Amtszeit Donald Trumps zusammen. Nun könnte Trump im Januar erneut US-Präsident werden, doch das deutsch-französische Duo steckt in einer Krise. Die Bundesregierung muss dringend den europäischen Pfeiler der NATO gemeinsam mit Frankreich konkret mit Leben füllen.

He openly argues for the alternative: joining the Russia-sponsored Eurasian Union.

EU-Turkey Relations after the Coup

On November 9, the European Commission published its 2016 Progress Report on the status of the enlargement process with Turkey, including an assessment of the country’s process of political reform. The next day Patrick Paquet presented the report results at the DGAP and discussed with panelists the state of EU-Turkey relations in light of the developments after July’s attempted military coup in Turkey, the EU-Turkey Agreement on Refugees, and Turkey’s role as regional actor.
