The French election season kicks off with the first round of presidential elections on April 10. A second round will follow two weeks later and legislative elections will take place after that. Time for DGAP to take stock of France’s European, foreign, and security policy under President Emmanuel Macron and clarify their impact on the campaign.

With our distinguished guests, we will also discuss – among other related issues – the role that France’s current presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Russian war in Ukraine play in this context.

Welcome: Ambassador Rolf Nikel, Vice President, DGAP

Speakers:

Claude France Arnould, Special Advisor to the President for European Affairs, French Institute of International Relations (IFRI)

Professor Joachim Bitterlich, École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris; Former Advisor on European, Foreign, and Security Policy to German Chancellor Helmut Kohl

Sylvie Kauffmann, Editorial Director, Le Monde

Moderator: Jacob Ross, Research Fellow, France/Franco-German Relations Program, DGAP
