Policy project: Registry of AI Systems Used by the German Public Sector

The use of AI systems for public services can have benefits, but also come with risks, including the use of 'snake oil' systems, or systems that infringe on citizen rights. This problem is important for both public authorities and affected societal groups; Both of which might lack knowledge about which AI systems are in use and what risks and biases they may have. This is why there are calls for a transparency registry and deployment of standards in this regards, including in the proposed AI act. Germany can take a lead in this area by formulating and implementing such a registry already.
