Every Thursday morning, DGAP’s Research Institute brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in foreign affairs. This week, we will be assessing the situation in Ukraine. Hampered by a significant lack of ammunition and air defense systems, as well as manpower shortages, its military has been on the back foot since last year. Meanwhile, Russia has taken to terror bombing Ukrainian cities and has successfully hit the country’s electricity grid. Yet Western support for Ukraine got a boost over the weekend when the US House of Representatives approved an aid package worth $61 billion after more than fourteen months of delays. Our panelists will discuss whether this is a “gamechanger” and how support for Ukraine can be sustained in the long term.
