Every Thursday morning at 8:30, DGAP’s Research Institute brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in geopolitics. This week, we will look at the second summit of the European Political Community (EPC), which will be held on June 1 in Chisinau and likely set the tone for what this new format can achieve and what it cannot. Although the EPC has so far failed to foster the “strategic intimacy” in wider Europe envisioned by French President Emmanuel Macron, this meeting may achieve more than geopolitical “speed dating” among 47 heads of states or governments.

Our experts will not only discuss the important benefits the summit may have for host country Moldova in terms of consolidating opposition to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and serving as a catalyst for the EU enlargement process, but they will also explore the potential of the EPC to address wider European challenges beyond the EU framework.
