Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine enters its ninth week amid well-documented reports of war crimes committed by the Russian forces against civilians, as well as calls for more heavy military equipment to be sent to Ukraine. We will assess the military situation in Ukraine and focus on Russia’s expected new offensive in the south and east of the country. In addition, we will discuss how recent elections in Hungary and the upcoming elections in France might affect the EU’s political cohesion and stance on central issues vis-à-vis Russia such as the sanctions regime and the idea for an energy embargo. How can Germany, which is already facing questions about the coherence of its own position, best navigate Europe's tricky politics?
