Wie soll die Gemeinsame Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der EU künftig aussehen? Haben die EU-Mitgliedsländer gemeinsame energiepolitische Interessen? Wie kann Europa die Transformationsprozesse in Nordafrika unterstützen, ohne die Östliche Partnerschaft aus den Augen zu verlieren? 15 junge Europa-Experten aus Think Tanks, Stiftungen und Institutionen aus Polen, Deutschland und Brüssel behandelten diese und andere Themen während eines zweitägigen Workshops am 6. und 7. Oktober 2011 in der DGAP.

Die wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit zwischen der EU und Russland ist in den letzten Jahren nicht so recht vorangekommen. Daneben arbeitet Russland an neuen Partnerschaften im Osten. Am 1. November 2011 kamen Vertreter des Deutschen Bundestags, des Auswärtigen Amtes sowie Experten, Diplomaten und Journalisten zum Gedankenaustausch über politische und wirtschaftliche Integrationstrends im eurasischen Raum beim Russischen Botschafter zusammen. Veranstalter war das Berthold-Beitz-Zentrum.

Belarus used to be an island of stability in the post-Soviet area, supported by economic growth and social security that was subsidized by Russia. This system is teetering now because Russia is limiting its financial support. This is leading to high inflation, currency shortage, job losses, and, consequently, to an unprecedented decline in popular support for the Belarusian president.

The Chief of the Russian Communist Party (KPRF), Gennady Zyuganov, is believed to be the only formidable rival to the Kremlin Chief Vladimir Putin and his governing party United Russia. The parliamentary elections are scheduled for December 4, 2011. The Communist Party of Russia may obtain around a quarter of the votes cast in the upcoming elections. Midway through the election campaign, Zyuganov came to Berlin to present and discuss his political program with a group of recognized experts and the public at large.

Beim deutsch-ukrainischen Runden Tisch des Berthold-Beitz-Zentrums kamen Politiker, Journalisten und Wissenschaftler beider Länder zusammen, um über ihre Erfahrungen im Kampf gegen die Korruption zu diskutieren. Der Fall Timoschenko zeigt: Besonders der ukrainischen Justiz mangelt es an Transparenz und rechtstaatlichen Strukturen, allzu oft entscheiden die Richter politisch und nehmen Oppositionspolitiker ins Visier.

How will cooperation between Germany and France look under the French G20 presidency? How will the strategic culture of both countries evolve in the face of emerging geopolitical challenges? How will France and Germany coordinate with each other during negotiations on the new EU financial framework? And how will Germany and France position themselves in relation to the “new Turkey” and the emerging world power India? These questions were discussed by the participants in the third seminar of the Franco-German Future Dialogue held in Paris.
