Speakers:
Claudia Schmucker, Head of the Center for Geopolitics, Geoeconomics, and Technology, DGAP
Christoph Seemann, International Economic, Trade, and Financial Policy, German Federal Foreign Office
Chair: Henning Hoff, Executive Editor, Internationale Politik Quarterly (IPQ)
Every Thursday morning, DGAP’s Research Institute brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in geopolitics. This week, we will look at the impact that recent conflicts have had on global trade. As the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Abu Dhabi concludes, we will assess the lessons it offers for international trade policy in times of geopolitical division. Expectations for the conference are low, yet – technical issues, such as fishery subsidies and digital goods, aside – the fundamental questions it will raise about the WTO’s leadership and institutional reform are essential to explore.
