This edition, the panel looks at the College of Commissioners proposed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on September 17. For the first time, it includes a Commissioner for Defence. With Raffaele Fitto of Italy’s far-right Fratelli d’Italia set to receive one of the Executive Vice-President roles, it is also shifting to the Right. Meanwhile, von der Leyen’s main internal opponent, Thierry Breton, is no longer part of the team. Together, we also examine the policy priorities of this new Commission and the approval process in the European Parliament.
