Jan Stöckmann has been head of the director’s office at DGAP since January 2023.

Prior to that, Stöckmann was a postdoc in modern history at Helmut-Schmidt-Universität in Hamburg. He held a research fellowship at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), which was sponsored by the Wiener-Anspach Foundation, and another at International Security Studies, the research hub of Yale University’s Jackson School of Global Affairs. His research covers various aspects of 20th century international history, especially the changing nature of diplomacy and international organizations. His book, The Architects of International Relations, was published in 2022 by Cambridge University Press.

Stöckmann holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, a dual MA in international and world history from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and a BA in philosophy and economics from the University of Bayreuth.
