Short Bio

Lukas Schaupp is a research fellow for geoeconomics and economic security in DGAP’s Center for Geopolitics, Geoeconomics, and Technology. His research focuses on the growing intersection of economic, trade, and security policy in Germany and the European Union. In particular, he explores how geoeconomic and economic security challenges can be translated into effective legal and regulatory policy instruments that strengthen the capacity to act of Germany and the EU.

Schaupp’s previous affiliations include the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School, the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), Humboldt-Universität, and the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). 

He holds a PhD in European and international economic law from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. During his PhD, Schaupp served as managing editor of the European Journal of Legal Studies and was the coordinator of the International Economic Law and Policy Working Group. He previously studied at the Universities of Passau and Edinburgh.
