Short Bio

Dr. Mario Baumann is a project manager and research fellow in DGAP‘s Center for Order and Governance in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia

In the framework of the project “In Together – Shaping a Common European Future,” Baumann coordinates the European Zeitenwende Strategy Group. In cooperation with Nordic, Baltic, and Eastern European experts, this strategy group works on new ideas for European security. Before joining DGAP, he worked in Brussels for a European Commission project that supported the Russian anti-war community and independent civil society.

In his PhD dissertation, Baumann examined the interaction of EU and Russian foreign policy discourses during the two decades prior to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He completed his studies in international security studies (MLitt) at the University of St. Andrews and in international relations (BA) at TU Dresden.
