Short Bio

Alia Fakhry has been an associate fellow in DGAP’s Center for Migration since January 2024. She previously worked with its Migration Program where she coordinated a research project on African migration policy and EU-Africa cooperation on migration. She has also consulted for international organizations and think tanks, including the Clingendael Institute of International Relations, the European Institute for the Mediterranean and the Institute for Security Studies, on issues related to migration policy, labor migration, irregular migration, smuggling and displacement in Europe, Western Asia, North Africa, West Africa, and the Sahel. Prior to that, Fakhry worked for the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). She currently works as seconded expert on migration for the French Foreign Service at the Tunisia country office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). 

Fakhry holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies from Lund University and a bachelor’s degree from Sciences Po Bordeaux. She was a visiting student at Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Yarmouk University, and Beer Sheva University.
