Short Bio

Alia Fakhry is an external consultant supporting DGAP’s Migration Program. She is coordinating a multi-author study on African migration policies and debates.

Fakhry previously worked at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Malta, where she supported Mediterranean cities in their policy work on migrant and refugee integration. She also worked as a consultant on urban migration in North Africa for UN-Habitat and contributed to communication for development (C4D) at UNICEF Senegal. Prior to that, she supported academic research projects on forced migration at the French Institute for the Near East (Ifpo–CNRS) in Lebanon and Jordan.

Fakhry holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies from Lund University with a focus on forced migration and a bachelor’s degree from Sciences Po Bordeaux. She was a visiting student at Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Yarmouk University, and Beer Sheva University.
