At DGAP’s India Center (under development), experts focus on India’s growing role as a geopolitical and economic actor and on the future of German-Indian and EU-Indian relations.
The center’s core work addresses the opportunities and challenges of deepening cooperation between Germany and India amid a shifting, increasingly multipolar world order. Its research examines wide-ranging topics: geopolitics and security policy; trade and supply chains; energy and the climate economy; and innovation and technology, including AI.

At DGAP’s India Center, our experts conduct research and provide policy advice on key issues shaping the German-Indian relationship. Our goal is to close existing information and knowledge gaps in European policymaking and foster a more nuanced understanding of India’s politics, society, and economy – moving beyond prevailing clichés to support informed political and business decision-making.
The center aims to build dedicated expertise in key areas:
- Geopolitics and security policy, including cybersecurity and India’s relations with major powers
- Geoeconomics and trade, covering supply chain diversification, raw materials, and the EU-India Free Trade Agreement
- Energy and the climate economy, including renewables, hydrogen, and green-tech supply chains
- Economic security, innovation, and technology, including AI
Our experts will identify opportunities, challenges, and areas of friction in German-Indian cooperation. Through recurring formats such as our India roundtable and an India study group, as well as regular policy briefs and contributions to DGAP’s journal Internationale Politik and leading media outlets, they will communicate their insights to decision-makers in policy, business, academia, and civil society.
