Vertreter der Bundesregierung und des Bundestages lobten die BEK-Initiative als willkommenes Dialogforum, vor allem mit den Staaten Zentralasiens. Die EU benötigt mehr Wissen über die Ziele und Inhalte der vor einem Jahr entstandenen Eurasischen Union, bestehend aus Russland, Kasachstan und Belarus. Zum ersten Treffen des BEK lud der Botschafter der Republik Kasachstan, Nurlan Onzhanov, Vertreter aus Politik, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft in seine Botschaft ein.

Freiheit war das wichtigste Schlagwort, das dem mongolischen Präsidenten in seiner Rede im Fraktionssaal der CDU/CSU des Deutschen Bundestages am Herzen lag. Deutschland und die Mongolei hätten Erfahrungen mit der Unfreiheit gemacht und seien an der „Schaffung freiheitlicher Gesellschaften“ interessiert. Elbegdorj sprach zudem über das rasante Wirtschaftswachstum seines Landes, grüne Hochtechnologien und die vertrauensvollen Beziehungen zu Deutschland.

On the 60th anniversary of the opening of bilateral relations between Germany and Indonesia, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu, discussed these and other issues at the DGAP in Berlin on March 9, 2012.

EU and Japan started a scoping exercise on the chances of a bilateral FTA. The symposium recognized the potential but also stressed the problem of removing non-tariff barriers in the Japanese market. On energy, Japan and Germany took different positions: While some stressed that the nuclear option was still necessary to achieve energy security, Germany committed to the “Energiewende”. The last topic on climate change triggered a discussion on how to achieve the 2°C target within the Durban framework.
