Geopolitics in Orbit: Threats and Trends in Space Security

At this week’s Morning Briefing Special we look at space security, an overlooked but increasingly important domain. While Elon Musk is playing geopolitical games with his Starlink system, Europeans are struggling to find answers. Their current initiatives – including IRIS² and offerings from Franco-British operator Eutelsat – have yet to produce competitive alternatives to Starlink. The German government introduced its space strategy in 2023 and is due to present its space security strategy soon. We assess the technological and political steps needed to make Germany and Europe fit for geopolitics in space.
