This episode we discuss the outcomes of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which was held against the symbolic background of the Amazon rainforest in Belém, Brazil. A decade after the landmark Paris Agreement, amid climate rollback in the United States and elsewhere, this summit took place at what is widely viewed as a critical juncture. The international community faces the urgent task of accelerating the implementation of existing commitments, such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and strengthening climate finance in the Global South. We examine the key achievements and setbacks of COP30 and explore Germany’s role in advancing global climate action.
