In this special edition to our regular Thursday format, the panel assesses the outcome of the French parliamentary elections that took place on June 30 and July 7. The far-right Rassemblement National (RN) could become the dominant party in the Assemblée nationale, possibly leading to the appointment of RN’s Jordan Bardella as prime minister and having grave consequences for the EU and the Franco-German relationship. A victory by the Nouveau Front populaire, which combines all left-wing forces, could also destabilize France, while a hung parliament might deepen the sense of political chaos and crisis. Our experts share their views on the previous evening’s results and analyze what they mean for France and the rest of the continent.
