Joint panel discussion by the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and the International Centre for Policy Studies, Kiev.

Parliamentary elections on October 26, 2014 could well give the Ukrainian Parliament much-needed democratic legitimization and help push forward reforms in the state. However, Ukraine’s biggest challenges remain its weak institutions and a still high rate of corruption. Both are impediments to profound political change and convergence with the EU. What consequences will the elections have on the prospects for political transformation in Ukraine? What is needed to encourage genuine transformation? How can the EU and Germany contribute to this process?

Franz Thönnes, MP
SPD Party, German Bundestag, Berlin

Oksana Syroyid
