Keynote Address by

General Denis Mercier
Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, North Atlantic Treaty Organization

General Mercier will share his perspectives on the changes affecting our security environment and their impact on the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance. He will address NATO’s short-term adaptation needs in view of these changes, including the expectations for the July summit in Warsaw and set out his vision for a modern military posture for the Alliance in the medium to long term.

What makes credible defense and deterrence now and in the future, and how do we resource it? How do we ensure readiness, responsiveness, and resilience? What does it take to be strategically aware? How can we be more innovative in order to keep the edge today and tomorrow?

The discussion will be held in English and moderated by Prof. Dr. Eberhard Sandschneider, Otto Wolff Director of the Research Institute, DGAP. The Chatham House rule will apply.

This event is the third in a series of DGAP discussions on the theme of “NATO before Warsaw: Necessary Adaptations in Defense Policy.” It is organized by the Future Forum Berlin (BFZ) and the USA/Transatlantic Relations Program, DGAP.
