At the weekend workshop in Belgrade, participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia presented their research projects and discussed various advocacy strategies.

Also in this year’s edition of the TRAIN programme, the participating think tanks will address a variety of topics related to Western Balkan integration with the EU, ranging from freedom of access to information in Croatia, the role of civil society in the accession negotiations in Montenegro and Serbia, to slaughterhouse practices in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their adaptation to EU standards.

Sponsored by the German Federal Foreign Office (Stability Pact for South East Europe), the TRAIN programme supports think tanks in the region to develop their policy research and contribute ideas directly to the decision-making process. The programme thus aims at strengthening the voice of civil society organizations in the EU integration process of the Western Balkans and increasing their visibility vis à vis EU actors. The next TRAIN workshop on communication strategies will be held in mid-June in Berlin.
