Security Challenges for the Transatlantic Partnership
This year’s Munich Security Conference had to deal with a multitude of security challenges to the transatlantic community especially in Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. It seems as if the current level of transatlantic engagement in fighting ISIS/Daesh is insufficient. At the same time, European attention is focused on the deteriorating security situation to its south and a massive migration crisis, while US security strategy is also focused on the Pacific.
Are transatlantic partners prepared to act in unison while faced with failing states, terrorist quasi-states, a revanchist Russia, and territorial disputes in Asia? In which of these areas do we witness the need for increased transatlantic leadership? Are there any strategic blind spots which the transatlantic Alliance is not prepared for and will the NATO summit in June help to address them?

Damon Wilson, Executive Vice President, Atlantic Council
Dr. Henning Riecke, Head of the DGAP's Transatlantic Relations Program, chaired the discussion.
