Friedrich Opitz is an Associate Fellow at the Center for Climate and Foreign Policy of DGAP and works comparatively on the American Midwest and East Germany at the University of Leipzig. He holds a doctoral scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation and is currently a Visiting Scholar at the University of Wisconsin at Madison for field research.
