Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Avi Shapiro has a background in political campaigns, research, think tanks, and refugee aid. In his current role at the Aspen Institute Germany, he serves as a junior program officer and works with executive director Stormy-Annika Mildner on topics including trade, sanctions, critical minerals, digitization, and the US-EU-China trilateral relationship.
Shapiro also serves as a research assistant at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, contributing to a study on the influence of great power competition on undersea telecom cables. Previous roles at the Ukrainian refugee aid NGO Berlin Arrival Support, the Seattle-based political consulting firm Northwest Passage, and as campaign manager for Washington State Representative Frank Chopp have developed his passion for public policy and transatlantic issues. Shapiro recently graduated from Brown University with a BA in history.
