Why it is risky for Great Britain to make use of Germany in its domestic debate on EU powers and areas of competence
Many Britons are skeptical of Europe, and anti-European MPs are putting pressure on the British administration. Prime Minister Cameron has therefore promised citizens that he will hold a referendum on Great Britain’s membership in the EU and that he'll renegotiate treaties with the EU and launch an EU-wide debate on reform. But London should be wary of using Germany’s take on the distribution of powers for its own domestic ends. Here in Germany, competence debates follow a logic of their own.
