Finance Expert Martin Wiesmann Joins DGAP as Senior Associate Fellow

Starting July 1, 2020, Martin Wiesmann, who had previously served in various senior positions at J.P. Morgan, joins DGAP’s research team in geo-economics as a senior associate fellow.

“We are extremely pleased that Martin Wiesmann, a proven expert in the finance and banking sector, has joined DGAP. With his broad experience, Mr. Wiesmann will help us to anticipate the strategic challenges facing Germany and Europe in international economic and financial matters even more precisely,” said DGAP director Dr. Daniela Schwarzer.

“The German Council on Foreign Relations is one of the leading think tanks in Europe, and I am very much looking forward to contributing to the DGAP team on key issues of geo-economics that are currently arising in Germany and Europe,” said Martin Wiesmann.

Prior to joining DGAP, Martin Wiesmann (54) had held senior positions at J.P. Morgan since 2007. Most recently, he served as vice chairman of J.P. Morgan’s investment banking in Europe from June 2015 to March 2020, advising both large companies and public sector institutions. With around 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Wiesmann has been involved in numerous transformational transactions in the corporate and capital markets sectors, including the transport and automotive industry as well as the real estate and financial sectors. Before joining J.P. Morgan, he worked in the investment banking division of Deutsche Bank. He began his career in 1991 at Dresdner Bank.

Wiesmann holds a master’s degree in politics, history, and public law from the University of Bonn. He studied politics at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (“Sciences Po”) and earned a MBA at the Joseph Katz School of Business in Pittsburgh.
