Foreign Policy Priorities and Initiatives of the Republic of Belarus
Monday, October 21, 2019, 5:30–7:00 pm
DGAP, Rauchstraße 17, 10787 Berlin
Belarus is in a unique strategic position in the middle of Europe, being a key energy transit country, member of the Eurasian Economic Union and a close military ally of Russia, at the same time being part of the Eastern Partnership initiative of the European Union. Hence, the foreign policy of the Republic of Belarus has constantly been in the center of international attention, particularly since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, as Minsk has been playing a key role in the settlement process. Now, with tenth anniversary of the launch of the Eastern Partnership, a possible settlement emerging in Eastern-Ukraine and with the upcoming new European Commission, it is of high importance to analyze, how the foreign policy of Belarus is going to develop in this complicated geopolitical context. The parliamentary elections in Belarus, to be held on 17 November 2019 only further contribute to the overall importance of the question.
