Second “Italian-German High-Level Dialogue” held in Turin
The Italian-German High Level Dialogue held its second meeting in Turin in April 2016. The format was founded in 2014 with the aim of fostering and reviving the exchange of views and cooperation between the two countries.
Over one hundred Italian and German participants from civil society, politics, media, and the cultural sector as well as senior executives of major companies discussed current topics of particular importance for both bilateral relations and joint action on at the European level.
In the course of the individual sessions on migration, the digital agenda, and European Neighborhood Policy, the participants exchanged views on possible solutions to problems and challenges the two countries are facing together. They further discussed ways of addressing these issues through deepened cooperation on European level.
The results of the discussions were then presented at a public conference hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and German President Joachim Gauck. Closing speeches by the two presidents brought the High-Level Dialogue to a close; both statesmen emphasized the need for and importance of greater cooperation between Italy and Germany.
The High-Level Dialogue took place under the aegis of the Italian Foreign Ministry and the German Federal Foreign Office. It was organized in cooperation of the City of Turin, the Italian Embassy in Berlin, and the German Embassy in Rome, with the support of Allianz, Deutsche Bank, and UniCredit. The DGAP’s Alfred von Oppenheim Centre for European Policy Studies and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) coordinated the event.
