Meeting the EU’s Military Level of Ambition in the Context of Brexit
Joint launch of a new study by the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and the International Institute for Security Studies (IISS)
Dr. Christian Mölling, Research Director of DGAP, and Dr. Bastian Giegerich, Director of Defence and Military Analysis, IISS, will discuss the effects of Brexit on the ability of EU member states to meet their politico-military level of ambition.
The DGAP-IISS study is based on a suite of military scenarios compliant with the EU’s stated level of ambition, from which the research team has derived concepts of operations and force requirements. Based on defense and military data from all EU member states, the study then assesses the EU’s ability to meet these requirements today, analyzes how likely this situation will change over the next decade, and highlights areas where a potential military contribution of the UK would be critical for success.
