An   alliance   between   pro-European   and   pro-Russian   forces   struck   a temporary political agreement in Moldova on 8 June 2019. They formed an unlikely  government  coalition  to  get  rid  of  an  oligarchic  rule  that  isolated Moldova  on  the  international  arena,  forced  many  citizens  to  emigrate,  and put the country’s economy on its knees. The newly elected Moldovan Prime Minister Maia Sandu pledged to pursue the “deoligarchization” of the country and clean up the corrupt political system.

At this public event, we will discuss the state of the reforms envisioned, initial achievements  and  challenges.  We  will  also  look  at  the  role  of  the  EU  in supporting this unique window of opportunity for Moldova to get back on track  of  the  reform  agenda  of  the  Association  Agreement,  and  address  the country’s democratic deficit.
